AIIMS Raipur is one of the SIX AIIMS healthcare institutes established in the first phase by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojna (PMSSY) with the aim of correcting regional imbalances in quality tertiary level healthcare in the country, and attaining self sufficiency in graduate and postgraduate medical education and training in underserved areas of the country.
The Department of Central Medical Records, AIIMS Raipur started functioning in 2014. The Department is situated at Lower Ground Floor, Hospital 'D' Block, and Room D-01 and spanned over 6500 sq.mtr. The patient records in the form of Physical, Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Electronic Health Record (EHR) are being maintained by the department. Digitalization of medical / patient records is being done on a daily basis. The movement of records is automated and is being controlled by a digitized tracking system. As per WHO guidelines, ICD Coding and indexing are being done. More than 1, 20,000 files have been maintained by the Department in a well organized manner with security measures. All Statistical data, physical / digitalized records including Birth Certificates, Death certificates, Insurances Certificates, Medical Claims documents, etc. are being provided by the department. Online, offline registration is being looked after by the department. The Department has set up the Automated Electronic Compactors of 14 units for record keeping of medical records. These compactors facilitate easy access of files which saves manpower and time. Since establishment, the department has been giving its best services to the hospital and general public.The Department of Central Medical Records continues to play its role as one of the vital departments of the Institute.
Central Bureau of Health Intelligence established in 1961 is the health intelligence wing of Directorate General of Health in the Services in the Ministry of Health & FW, GOI with the Vision to have "A Strong Health Management Information System in the entire Country " This National institution is headed by a SAG level medical offices with specialization in public health administration of central health services (CHS ), supported by officers from Indian Statistical Services as well as CHS and through its is fixed survey and training units.

Health Records Association of INDIA (HERAI) is a pioneer Association for Medical Records professionals in India having its headquarters in Chennai. In India the Medical Record System was ﬁrst introduced in the year 1930 at Christian Medical College, Vellore and it was entirely an American origin envisaged by the American College of Surgeons and Physicians. It took 32 years for the Govt. of India to realize the importance of this specialty of Medical Records after the WHO and the Rockefeller Foundation; USA came forward to support the training program in Medical Records to create necessary trained manpower in medical records.
HERAI International Chapter is an extension of HERAI national association with 70 HIM professionals working in Qatar, Oman, UAE and Saudi Arabia. Formed in 2016, the international chapter has been supporting HERAI's mission to uplift Health Information Management (Medical Records Management) professionals in India
